A moment's pause to reflect.

A few years ago I spent a weekend in downtown New York. I considered visiting the site of the World Trade Center, but eventually decided against it. It didn't seem right treat the site of such a monstrous tragedy as a tourist attraction, complete with candy and souvenirs. So I stayed away, although the gap in the New York skyline was a prominent and grisly reminder wherever I went.

On September 11th, 2001, one of our community was in the North Tower when the first plane struck. He was fortunate enough to escape the building before its destruction. So many more were not.

A few days later, he wrote an account of his experience and graciously let us publish it. Each year I take a few minutes to re-read it, and to reflect.
